Job Description

Job Summary:

The successful Senior Mechanical Engineer will provide senior level engineering support to maintenance and operations of the Wade Utility Plant. Review and evaluate engineering designs, new products, equipment, services, and technologies. Provide senior level technical assistance and guidance in problem solving, troubleshooting, and resolutions to problems in support of Heat and Power, Utilities Operations, and other Physical Facilities staff. Manage and coordinate stewardship projects in support of Energy & Utilities departments to include system and equipment outages. Select, procure, and/or approve owner furnished major equipment for utilities related projects. Perform thorough investigations of various Power Plant systems, obtain baseline performance data, and determine optimum operating conditions. Recommend improvements to Wade equipment and operations. Plan, develop, and implement projects. Redline existing drawings and prepare specifications for Power Plant, Physical Plant, and Contractors. Contract and communicate with vendors to obtain information and services for Wade Power Plant equipment. Assist operations manager and supervision to revise existing and create new operating procedures for plant systems. Contribute to utilities master planning, including condition assessments and system modeling. Coordinate maintenance, replacement, and expansion of utilities systems. Provide engineering judgment and recommendations. Train power plant personnel on system optimization.

What We're Looking For:

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field
  • Four years of experience in a utilities or related position
  • Experience in heavy industrial, utilities distribution, and/or utility plant environments
  • Experience working on multiple projects in a team environment

Skills Needed:

  • Desire to learn, grow, and contribute to E&U success
  • Thorough knowledge in the functional operation of a Power Plant including areas of electrical generation, instrumentation & controls, and boiler construction, maintenance, and operations, as well as engineering consultation
  • Knowledge of applicable codes and regulations
  • Good:

  • Demonstrated ability to act as a liaison between multiple parties
  • Proven understanding of mechanical engineering design and construction techniques as they relate to power plants and utilities distribution

  • Office and engineering computer skills with the ability to learn new computer skills including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and PI archive database
  • Exposed to heat, noise, dust, and hazardous areas around machinery, chemicals, etc. in utility plants and utility distribution infrastructure
  • Ability to climb stairs, ladders, and work from heights of up to 100 feet
  • Ability to enter equipment manholes and confined spaces

What is helpful (Preferred):

  • Professional engineer license
