THE POSITION

The Department of Human Services, Polk Center, is hiring a Water Treatment Plant Operator Trainee. Polk Center is located in a tranquil, tree-lined part of northwestern Pennsylvania. This position is part of the Polk Center stay-behind maintenance team and will remain operational after the facility closure. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will participate in various training programs, including in-service, out-service and on-the-job, that are designed to provide basic water treatment plant operation knowledge, skills, and abilities. Assignments are designed to provide progressively responsible experience in operating and maintaining motors, pumps, water softeners, chemical feeders, chlorinators, filters, flow recorders, controllers, and related equipment used in water treatment plants.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week.
  • Work hours are 7:00am-3:00pm, Monday - Friday; with a 30 minute lunch.
  • Overtime as needed and call out time as needed.
  • Travel as needed.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Any combination of experience and/or training which provides the required knowledges and abilities.
Necessary Special Requirements:
  • This position requires a valid automobile operator's license as issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
Other Requirements:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
Legal Requirements:
  • A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act.
